iPhoneDevCamp 2 is coming!

In July 2007, six organizers, a host of volunteers, several dozen sponsors and over 300 attendees came together over a weekend at Adobe in San Francisco for the first ever iPhoneDevCamp, all planned in just 22 days. Well, we’re getting the band back together again – it’s time to come together for Apple’s public release of the iPhone SDK and iPhone OS 2.0!

iPhoneDevCamp 2 is an upcoming gathering to develop applications for iPhone and iPod Touch using both the native SDK and web standards. This is a follow-on event to the first iPhoneDevCamp, held in early July 2007. The event will be held in the San Francisco Bay Area in Summer 2008, after the public launch of iPhone 2.0 OS and the iTunes App Store. Attendees are encouraged to attend Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference 2008, June 9-13, which includes an iPhone Track. (SOLD OUT!)

We have some exciting things in store this year – a few things we’re not quite ready to announce, but check back in the next few months for updates on the event.

We’re still working on securing a venue. We have a number of options right now that we’re exploring. If you have good ideas about a venue in the San Francisco Bay Area that can accommodate 300-500 people at a reasonable cost (or free as part of a sponsorship), please comment on this blog post.

We’re also actively recruiting sponsors to help with the costs of operating the event. This is a not-for-profit event and 100% of sponsor dollars are used to pay for event costs. If you are interested in being a sponsor, please see the Sponsors page

We are sensitive to the NDA that Apple has in place on the iPhone SDK. It is our hope that Apple will lift this NDA shortly after the public launch of the App Store. iPhoneDevCamp 2 will be held sometime after this date. We have no intention of violating the terms that individual developers have in place with Apple on the iPhone SDK.

We’d also love to get your thoughts about iPhoneDevCamp 2 – what are you hoping to get out of the event this year? How can we improve over the iPhoneDevCamp we held last year? Please leave a comment and let us know your thoughts on making this a great community event.

Please check back for further event details as we finalize our plans. I encourage you to bookmark this site or better yet, add this site to your RSS reader so that you can follow along as more details unfold and take part in the conversations. Thank you and we look forward to seeing you this summer!
